Learn how to add water areas to your terrain.

Adding water is done by adding Local Water Areas - areas are treated as boundaries of the water shape that is applied usually inside river or lake beds, where the terrain goes under a specified elevation level.

Adding water areas

Here’s a step-by-step guide. Start on a loaded or created world.

  1. Add a new layer- right click in the Scene Panel and choose 2024-05-14_13-58.png. We can call it e.g. local_water_shape.

  2. Select the new layer.

  3. Go to Tools and Terrain Edit Tools (Shape BrushFlatten).

  4. With the tool active, go to the Editor main screen and experiment with “flattening” the ground (basically, making a hole in the ground).

  5. Now right on the area you have just flattened and choose Graphics → Add Local Water Areas.

  6. Use the Scale and Move button to change the size of your water area and bring into view by elevating it higher.

Check the process in the video below:

Additional settings

When you open up the World settings tab at the right side of the editor, search for a setting called 'disableWaterShaders'.

This setting should be switched off to make the water defined by local water areas visible.

Also please make sure that when you open up the World Environment Editor (the highlighted icon on the top toolbar) the Allow water shader option is checked.
